- Laser : centreboard boat 4.23 7.0 60 - -
- The Laser was developed in 1970 by the Canadian boat builder
- Ian Bruce and the editor of "Yacht Racing" Bruce Kirby. Hans
- Fogh developed the sail which is not hoisted, but slid over
- the mast. The mast being subsequently stepped onto the
- foredeck. The Laser is a one-man, international class racing
- dinghy. The Laser became popular very quickly. Before the
- arrival of the surf-board, the Laser was unique in that it
- is easily transported (the total weight is ± 60 kg) and can
- be quickly rigged. The Laser can be launched from a harbour,
- or directly off a beach.
- The Laser is a polyester, round-framed centreboard boat. The
- Bermudan rigged sail is slid over an unstayed aluminium mast.
- The boat is cat rigged (has no jib). Because of this the
- Laser is easy to sail single-handedly. The boat's sailing
- characteristics are good, both on inland waterways and open
- sea. The boat is very unstable and easy to capsize, but is
- just as easily righted again.
